If you are earning more than 1 cent a visitor (1 cent is about two thirds of a UK penny) you should seriously consider using the pay-per-click directories.
To get an idea of how much you are earning on average per visitor, divide your monthly profit by your monthly visitors. If you do not have access to your site statistics, sign up at Extreme where in return for placing a small button advertisement on each of your pages, they will provide you with excellent free on-line statistics that you can view from your normal browser.
2: You supply the directory with a list of keywords and keyphrases that are relevant to your web-site. These keywords can be e-mailed to the directories rather than entering them all individually on-line (with the current exception of Overture.com and Sprinks.com).
3: You supply them with a descriptive sentence or two about what their visitors will see when they click through to your web-site.
4: You decide how much you would like to pay. If you perform a search in the directory for your chosen keyword or keyphrase, you will see how much your competitors are bidding (indicated next to their listing). The higher the bid, the higher the position in the ranking. Let's say you have bid 1 cent per keyword or keyphrase.
5: A visitor searches for the keyword or keyphrase that you have bid on within the directory.
6: The visitor sees your listing, clicks on it, and the 1 cent is removed from your $25.00 payment. If the visitor chooses not to click on it, you pay nothing. After 2500 clicks you add more money.
Important: If you can only supply your product or service locally, remember to not only include this information with the keywords that you bid on, i.e. "My Town's Ice-Cream Parlour" or "My Country's Ice-Cream Factory", but also include it with the description. It will save unnecessary clickthroughs from people outside your area of interest.
Most of the directories below have a minimum bid of only 1 cent, although Brainfox.com start as low as $.001. They are listed within their bid categories in roughly the order of their traffic. Bids are current at time of writing; please e-mail any minimum changes so I can keep the list up to date.
Note 1: Some pay per click directories pay their visitors to search through their listings or enter them into competitions on every click they make. This brings down the value of visitors from these particular sites. It should be obvious to you when you arrive at these sites which are currently subscribing to this model.

Effectiveness of pay-per-click directories
This is one of the few things on the internet that seems too good to be true, but isn't. Tens of thousands of sites are currently paying in the region of US $100 (UK £65) for up to 10,000 totally targeted, prequalified visitors. Over 75% of internet users perform over 2 billion searches each month on these types of listings.
Positioning - Qualified traffic is the holy grail
You can buy visitors for as low as 1 cent each at the directories listed below. This is the cheapest way I know to attract visitors through paid advertising. It is also low risk as initial investment is minimal.

1: You sign up with the directory, giving them your credit card details and usually a deposit of $25.00 (this will be converted to the currency of your country on your credit card bill).
