UK Students Face tuiton fees hike as University chiefs look to raise income.
"Undergraduates pay up to £1,025 ($1537) a year for tuition. A new annual limit of 4,000 could raise 3 billion a year, funding bursaries to help the less well-off and allowing universities to offer more places on popular courses. It would also improve the pay of lecturers, many of whom are paid only just over half what their US counterparts receive." - The Times

Debts blamed for drop out increase.

It has also been calculated that one in five of Britain's 5.6 million further and higher education students drop out of their courses because of financial worries.
Although better financial planning helps, the old saying of "working your way through college" still applies in many cases.
