Bytes are a measure of computer data
One byte is the roughly the equivalent to one letter, digit, punctuation mark or space.
A kilobyte is 1000 bytes.
A megabyte is a million bytes and it could store the text of a typical paper-back book.
A gigabyte is a thousand megabytes and therefore the equivalent of about one thousand books.

Just a few years ago, a banner ad was something that was flown by an airplane over a beach or an event - and nobody ever tried to click on it. The advert was for information and branding purposes only and immediate action was not required from the viewer. How things have changed....
What's the most effective type of on-line advertising?
Banner ads rarely achieve a click through ratio (CTR) of 1% (1 click per hundred views); text ads are usually far more successful and enable you to start a dialogue with your potential customers before they arrive at your site. Product links placed within relevant content can be a very effective medium. Proven successful words and phrases in text headlines and content are as follows:

If you pay other sites to run on-line banner advertising for you, include the words "click here" for a high click through rate (CTR). Advertisements with a "call to action" are generally much more effective than those without. However, you need to decide if you prefer random click-throughs from the curious or only click-throughs from people interested in buying.

If you are paying for banner views for instance, then the more click-throughs you get the better (after all, the click-throughs are costing you no more money), but if you are paying per click you may be better of pre-qualifying the clicker by telling them EXACTLY what they will be clicking through to.
You should also include your brand name on all your advertising: even if the ad is not clicked on, at the very least you have achieved some useful branding.

Pop-up boxes
A pop-up box advert usually consists of a smaller window that loads on top of the main window. Consider using pop-up boxes as they achieve high responses (up to 15 times greater than banner ads), but beware, they annoy many surfers and may harm your brand if overused. Maybe just use them occasionally.

Portal traffic
Traffic arriving from search engines and directories is considered to be generally more effective in converting surfers into sales than traffic from banner clickthroughs. This is mostly true if a relevant and informative title and description is used.
Create Banner Ads
Try to keep your banners under 20k. Animation can attract more attention, but if the banner is slow loading a lot of visitors will not even see it. Some merchants have doubled their click-through rates as a result of reducing the weight of their banners.
